For my graphite portraits, I use Caran d’Ache graphite pencils, chosen for their superior quality, precise grade consistency and exceptionally smooth application. They allow me to build delicate layers of tone while maintaining precise control over the finest details, helping me capture subtle changes in light, texture and expression.
I pair my graphite pencils with high-quality hot-pressed watercolour paper, which has an exceptionally smooth surface. This allows the graphite to be applied and blended beautifully, creating soft transitions and delicate tonal variations without the texture of the paper interfering with the detail.
The smooth finish is particularly suited to portraiture, allowing me to capture the subtle nuances of skin complexions, from the softest highlights to the deepest shadows, while retaining a beautifully refined and lifelike finish.
As with all of my artwork, I carefully select professional-quality materials to ensure that every portrait is created to the highest standard and can be treasured for years to come.
